A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a man in his 20s suffered potentially life-threatening head injuries

Correction: An earlier version of this article reported that a pedestrian had been hit by a London bus. The Metropolitan Police has since said the incident was not a collision, while London Ambulance Service said it had no record of a collision and confirmed it was called to an assault. Arriva London said its bus was not involved and was held by police for CCTV retrieval. The article has been updated accordingly.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening head injuries following an assault at Vauxhall Bus Station.

Police were called to Bondway, Vauxhall, at 3.13am on Tuesday, September 1, following reports of an assault.

Officers attended alongside London Ambulance Service and found the man suffering injuries to his head.

He was taken to hospital, where police said he remained with potentially life-threatening injuries.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has since been bailed pending further investigation.

London Ambulance Service said it was called at 3.15am and sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.15am yesterday (1 September) to reports of an assault at Vauxhall Bus Station, SW8.

“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took him to hospital.”

An Arriva London bus was pictured inside the police cordon following the incident.

However, Arriva confirmed the bus was not involved and had been held by police so CCTV could be retrieved.

An Arriva spokesperson said: “Arriva were not involved in the incident. The bus was held by the Police for CCTV retrieval only.”

A TfL Surface Control Centre notice issued shortly after 3am said Vauxhall Bus Station had been closed due to an “emergency services incident”.

A number of bus routes were diverted while the station was closed, with several services using temporary stops around Vauxhall Bridge and surrounding roads.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to call 101 quoting CAD 1038/01SEP, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
