Families are being urged to check children’s Zip Oyster photocards are still valid before the new school term begins.
Parents across London are being urged to check their children’s Zip Oyster photocards before the new school term to make sure they continue to receive free or discounted travel.
Transport for London said families should make sure Zip Oyster photocards are still valid and apply for a replacement or updated card where needed.
The cards allow children and young people to travel free or at discounted rates across parts of London’s transport network, depending on their age.
Children aged five to 10 can travel free on London buses and a number of rail services with a 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard, while those aged 11 to 15 receive free bus and tram travel alongside discounted fares on other services.
TfL said new cards will usually arrive within two weeks once a child’s photograph and supporting documents have been accepted.
Emma Strain, Customer Director at TfL, said: “With the new school year fast approaching, it’s important that parents and guardians check their child’s Zip Oyster photocard and make sure they apply for a new or updated card if needed.
“Ensuring that their Zip photocards are valid before the start of term will help children continue to benefit from affordable travel across London’s Tube, bus and rail network.”
Parents of older children are also being advised to check whether they qualify for a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard or an apprentice photocard.
Application fees currently range from £11.50 for a 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard to £22 for a 16+ card.
