London’s £1.75 Weekend Hopper fare starts today, allowing passengers to travel across the capital all day on Saturdays and Sundays for the price of a single fare.
The Mayor’s temporary Weekend Hopper fare began at 04:30 on Saturday and will run until 31 August, covering the school summer holidays.
Passengers using Oyster or contactless will pay £1.75 for their first bus or tram journey before being able to make unlimited further journeys for the rest of that day at no additional cost.
They must continue to touch in on every journey using the same Oyster card, contactless card or mobile device for the fare to be applied automatically.
The offer is available every Saturday and Sunday during the scheme and will also operate on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August.
It only applies to journeys made on London buses and trams. Passengers travelling on the Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line, London Cable Car or River Bus will continue to be charged separately.
Emma Strain, TfL’s customer director, said: “There is so much to explore and experience in London, and public transport is absolutely the best and most convenient way to do this.
“The Weekend Hopper scheme, as well as our wider range of offers for bus and tram customers, will allow families to make the most of the city during the summer holidays.”
The Weekend Hopper fare was first announced in May and has been introduced to mark 10 years since the original Hopper fare was launched.
The existing Hopper fare allows passengers to make unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour of first touching in.
A separate government scheme will also allow children under 16 to travel free on London buses throughout August, including children visiting the capital without a Zip Oyster photocard.
Bus and tram fares are currently frozen at £1.75 until 1 November 2026.
